I love mid-century modern architecture, which flourished in Los Angeles in the 50's and 60's. Trousdale Estates, a unique conclave for the super-rich in Beverly Hills, personifies the best of this architecture -- as well as more contemporary. The book is beautiful, the photos superb. But can cost over $2,000, having been (I assume) a very limited edition specially for the owners of the great homes on the estate. I was grateful it was available on Kindle and it is nice to see the beautiful photography. But I had to take one star off because the book format does not translate too well onto the Kindle format. The book is a large, wide horizontal format and it does not quite fit on the Kindle screen either horizontally or vertically. One must scroll around to see the whole picture, especially when the photos span the better part of two adjacent pages. Still I am glad to have it al all, at a reasonable price. 350 colorful pages of mid-century modern glory. I grew up in L.A. and I've always been interested in the architectural influence and history of the mid-century home, and Trousdale Estates is the pinnacle of style, design, architecture during the period of the '50s through the early '60s when capitalist America had no competitive equal and the wealthy of Beverly Hills could pick and choose their building lot and hire the best architects of the period, with glorious results. This superbly researched and illustrated book is eye candy for anyone who appreciates the history of mid-century modern style and design and is much more than photos of beautiful houses.
